:: Bleaching Part 1 | Bleaching Part 2 | How to Dye ::

Here is a little tutorial for all you people who would like to color your hair and have never bleached you hair before. This is basically a two step process. You must bleach your hair before you color it a funky color. This not only to lighten the hair enough so the color stays bright, but when the pigment is stripped from the hair, it leaves it slightly more brittle and it will become more porous, in order to absorb the hair dye into the hair.

Here is some information on the kinds of bleaches available for you. Bleaches contain Hydrogen Peroxide, and depending on your natural color, you need more peroxide for "lift" (pigment reduction). 30 volume means 30% peroxide to 70% water, and other bleaching substances in the product, and 40 Volume means 40% peroxide to 60% water, etc. Because of it's higher concentration, the 40 Volume is more appropriate for naturally black to medium brown colored hair. The 30 Volume is good for bleaching naturally lighter hair such as light brown, dirty blonde, and light blonde hair. Blondes I guess, don't necessarily HAVE to bleach their hair first, but if you want blue in your hair, and you don't want a NASTY shade of blue-grey hair, I recommend you bleach your hair first. You could probably buy 20 Volume  bleach since you won't need to use anything very harsh  to remove the pigment.

*Because of the volatility of the substances, remember to NEVER EVER store any already mixed bleaching products. The chemical reactions produce heat in the container and it could explode! Since when the product is place in your hair, the heat is beneficial to life the color out, but this is the same reason it is unusable after and hour-1 ½ hours, because the heat forces the chemicals to exhaust itself quickly.
